The Conciliation Board has concluded in the Verkhovna Rada. However, the situation regarding the vote for the new Minister of Defense, Ihor Klymenko, remains uncertain. There is a possibility that the votes may not be sufficient.
This was stated by deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko.
According to him, the vote for the head of the Ministry of Defense may not even be brought for consideration today. At the same time, the parliamentarian notes, Ihor Klymenko himself is not rushing with the appointment, as there is a risk that the Rada may not have the required number of votes.
“It is unknown whether the appointment of the Minister of Defense will be considered today. This issue remains open for now,” emphasized Honcharenko.
The Rada lacks votes
Journalist Yevhen Plinskyi also emphasizes that the parliament has not yet gathered the necessary number of votes to appoint Ihor Klymenko to the position. At the same time, he stresses, there are no issues with the candidate himself among the deputies.
“People’s deputies are simply not ready to go against public opinion, which has erupted in support of Mykhailo Fedorov. They perfectly understand that the media wave in favor of keeping Fedorov in office is absolutely sincere and expected. The reasons for his resignation are too clear to everyone to remain silent,” he emphasized.
The position of the people’s deputies regarding the appointment of Ihor Klymenko may still change. According to Plinskyi, the decision will be influenced by several factors: the scale of public discontent, the position of the leaders of factions and groups in parliament, as well as the reaction of the President’s Office to the wave of criticism.
MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak also reports problems with the votes. According to him, there are many different versions of events circulating around the situation. However, some of them look very “unrealistic” and therefore may just be an attempt to confuse the situation.
“In short: as of now, no one knows how it will turn out. The decision will be made closer to the evening, and even then, it’s not a certainty,” the deputy emphasized.
We remind you that on the evening of the previous day, Mykhailo Fedorov confirmed that he is leaving the Ministry of Defense. He wrote a farewell post in which he stated that it was a great honor for him to “serve the Ukrainian people as Minister of Defense.”
It should be noted that Mykhailo Fedorov’s resignation caused protests across Ukraine. In Kyiv, a rally attended by hundreds of people is taking place near the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater. Today, rallies have also begun in other cities. Specifically, in Lviv, Odesa, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, and others.
