In Egypt’s new administrative capital, under construction approximately 45 kilometers east of Cairo, the world’s largest military command center, named the Octagon due to its octagonal architectural concept, has been officially inaugurated.
This is reported by Ahram Online.
The new headquarters for the strategic command of the Egyptian Armed Forces has become a pivotal element of the nation’s military management system. The complex functions as a unified hub for command, control, communication, and coordination among the army, government ministries, and state institutions.
The Octagon is composed of eight interconnected primary structures, representing the diverse branches and strategic units of the Egyptian military. At the heart of the complex lies the central command building, facilitating seamless information exchange and coordination among military leadership.
The facility spans an area of roughly 92 square kilometers, organized into 13 strategic and logistical zones. It is equipped with underground data processing centers, cloud-based digital infrastructure, advanced satellite intelligence capabilities, artificial intelligence systems for big data analysis, and cutting-edge cybersecurity measures.
According to the publication, the site has been designed with protective engineering solutions capable of withstanding explosions and aerial assaults. The complex also features independent power, water supply, and cooling systems, ensuring its operational continuity even under emergency conditions.
The architectural design of the Octagon draws inspiration from ancient Egyptian symbolism and octagonal geometry, which embodies balance, order, and precision. As intended by its creators, the headquarters aims to enable rapid strategic decision-making, centralized crisis management, and the enhancement of Egypt’s defense capabilities.
