During another massive assault on Kyiv, Russian forces utilized one of the most sophisticated aerial strike tactics seen throughout the full-scale war. A distinctive feature of this attack was the extensive deployment of kamikaze jet drones, estimated to be over a hundred.
This was reported by military observer Bohdan Miroshnikov.
According to him, the second perilous aspect of the strike was the combination of S-400 anti-aircraft missile system launches with Iskander ballistic missiles. Furthermore, the number of such launches this time exceeded previous attacks.
Another notable characteristic was the synchronized attack by Zircon hypersonic missiles concurrently with Iskander ballistic missile launches amidst the main wave of shelling.
Based on the expert’s preliminary calculations, the occupiers may have deployed approximately 60 missiles of different types. While not a record number, this is likely one of the most significant missile strikes on a single city throughout the war.
Following the main wave of attacks, the Russian army continued to bombard the capital with individual missiles, jet drones, and loitering munitions of the “Banderol” type.
Miroshnikov emphasized that this is the fifth consecutive combined missile and drone attack exclusively targeting Kyiv and its surrounding areas. He believes Russia’s objective remains the terrorization of the civilian population, the destruction of residential buildings, critical infrastructure, and Ukraine’s defense sector.
The expert also pointed out that effectively countering a large number of simultaneous ballistic missile launches is exceedingly difficult, and Ukraine’s strategic response in the future could involve developing its own missile production.
As of 05:10 on July 2, 2026, 20 casualties have been confirmed as a result of the attack.
The threat persists; remain in shelters.
