The steadfast and pragmatic strategy of Ukraine’s Defense Forces is intended to lead the aggressor nation to inevitable collapse.

During an exchange with foreign media, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi detailed the strategic objectives of the Defense Forces and the conditions for ending hostilities. Despite the enemy’s significant losses and successful Ukrainian strikes on Russian logistics, the general currently refrains from declaring that the conflict has reached a turning point. Instead, the Ukrainian army plans to bring the aggressor nation to a complete halt through the systematic draining of its military and economic capabilities.
The head of the Ukrainian military shared his vision of the war’s climax and subsequent strategic steps in an interview with The Times.
Anticipating the Critical Moment
In the conversation, the Commander-in-Chief referenced the well-known military theory of Carl von Clausewitz regarding the climax of a conflict. According to this principle, an aggressor’s military might must first reach its peak momentum, after which it inevitably stalls and collapses due to total exhaustion. This precise scenario is considered by Ukraine’s military leadership to be the most realistic path to victory.
“I cannot directly say that the war is approaching a turning point,” the general frankly admitted.
Currently, the Russian command has not abandoned its intentions to seize Ukrainian territories; it is merely adjusting the timelines of its plans. The enemy continues to press with infantry and employs the cynical “death by a thousand cuts” tactic.
“We hope that a moment will come when the enemy mobilizes all its forces, resources, and actions, after which exhaustion will set in, and then a turning point may occur,” explained Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Four Main Objectives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
To accelerate this process of attrition, the Ukrainian military command is implementing a clear action plan. The Defense Forces’ strategy currently boils down to four primary, yet extremely challenging to execute, tasks. The first and foremost objective remains the reliable holding of controlled territories.
The second crucial task is the elimination of Russian soldiers in numbers that significantly exceed Moscow’s capacity to replenish its reserves. Since the beginning of the year, Ukrainian defenders have already managed to kill or wound over 183,000 occupiers, a figure surpassing the results of Russian mobilization during the same period.
The third goal is the complete destruction of enemy logistics through the use of medium-range drones.
“We must be proactive and constantly impose our will on the enemy through active operations,” summarized the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
The fourth strategic objective of the Ukrainian troops is the targeted destruction of the Russian economy. To achieve this, the Defense Forces will continue to conduct large-scale long-range strikes on energy sector facilities and the military-industrial complex of the aggressor state.
It is noteworthy that unprecedented changes in combat tactics have compelled modern armies to revert to methods from the previous century. According to Syrskyi, the use of drones has rendered heavy equipment ineffective, thus infantry is now assaulting the enemy “on foot,” akin to World War I.
