Ukraine’s youth national football team defeated Croatia’s team in the first-round match of the group stage of Euro-2026 (U-19). The game at “Newport Stadium” in Newport, Wales, ended with a score of 1:3.
The Croats opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of the match; Ivan Barić converted a penalty.
However, the “blue-yellows” quickly equalized – in the 26th minute, Dmytro Bohdanov scored a precise header after a cross from a corner taken by Pavlo Lusin.
After the break, Dmytro Mykhaylenko’s charges took the lead – in the 48th minute, Mykyta Kalyuzhnyi shot accurately into the near post from a sharp angle.
And in the 57th minute, the Ukrainian team extended their advantage – Lusin, from outside the penalty area, placed the ball perfectly into the far corner with a brilliant strike.
Thanks to this victory, the Ukrainian national team (3 points) leads Group B in the tournament standings. Italy (3 points) is second, having defeated Serbia (2:0) in the first round. Croatia and Serbia remain without any points for now.
In the second round, the Ukrainians will play against the Serbs. The match will take place on Thursday, July 2nd, starting at 20:00 Kyiv time.
In the final third round, our team will face the Italians. The match is scheduled for Sunday, July 5th. The opening whistle will blow at 18:00 Kyiv time.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The winners of the 1/2 final matches will play in the final.
Euro-2026 (U-19) in football is taking place from June 28th to July 11th in Wales.
The Euro-2026 (U-19) Championship will also serve as a UEFA qualifying stage for the 2027 U-20 World Cup, which will be held in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
