The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, is escalating the conflict with Ukraine and trying to disrupt the URC2026 Reconstruction Conference, scheduled for June 25-26 in Gdańsk, because he is offended by the participation of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
This was stated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a conversation with TSN.Tyzhden TV presenter Alla Mazur.
According to the Ukrainian leader, Duda was outraged by the fact that he was allegedly not invited to the planned URC 2026 Conference in Gdańsk, where Poland will be represented by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
“Now we are talking about this openly, because he (Duda – ed.) is taking some steps, which I believe are wrong. And therefore, I am now providing an answer, an analysis of everything that is happening. This, in my opinion, is a political situation. We met with him, I think, at the Bucharest platform, there was a summit, and he told me openly that he does not support the conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine in such a format where he, as president, is not invited,” Zelenskyy said.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that this is purely an electoral process that has already begun in Poland and will continue until 2027, when parliamentary elections and the election of a new prime minister will take place there.
“President Duda is fighting for the prime minister’s seat so that his party wins against Prime Minister Tusk. That’s what’s happening,” Zelenskyy stated.
To de-escalate the situation, according to the Ukrainian leader, he proposed that the President of Poland meet and hold the conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine together. But Duda, instead, decided to further escalate the conflict.
“I said, let’s hold the conference. The President of Poland takes the next step: he says that Ukraine has no place in Europe, because it is bad for Polish farmers. That’s how he puts it. Why? Not only to disrupt the conference, to then put pressure on Tusk, to block clusters. These things are absolutely connected. That’s why this is being done. He makes this statement, absolutely not understanding that we are not selling any agricultural products en masse to Poland. Not at all – we have other markets. That is, he is simply fueling society. Why? Why do this? Politics, elections,” the President of Ukraine is convinced.
Recall that earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga, stated on the telethon that against the backdrop of new tensions between Ukraine and Poland, Volodymyr Zelenskyy would make his decision on June 22 whether to participate in the URC2026 Ukraine Reconstruction Conference in Gdańsk, scheduled for June 25-26.
