This comes after news broke that Prince George, William and Kate of Wales’ eldest son, will be attending the same institution this September.
A former pupil, who attended Eton with the Prince of Wales from 1995 to 2000, recounted his recollections of the royal during his school years. According to him, William was not as conspicuous as many might have assumed, despite his royal standing.

“We weren’t in awe of William, and I don’t think he would have wanted us to be,” he told The Telegraph.
The Prince’s former classmate also revealed a nickname they used for the royal:
“You have to remember that at Eton he wasn’t particularly standout – there were boys from even wealthier families than his and also boys from very old English aristocratic houses who could trace their lineage back thousands of years and who would tease William by calling him ‘new money German’.” He was popular but still just one of the crowd.”
During William’s time at the school, the divorce of his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, was dominating tabloid headlines. However, according to his former classmate, the subject was rarely discussed among the pupils.

The following year, after the tragic death of his mother in a car crash, hundreds of students reportedly wrote William letters of condolence. Yet, few were willing to discuss it with him personally.
“I think that was the only way we knew how to behave,” a former student stated. “We all watched Diana’s funeral on TV, but just stayed silent. It was very British, reserved, and probably looks bad from a 2026 perspective, but I suspect that’s what he would have preferred at the time,” she was quoted as saying by Ok! magazine.
