During his communication with foreign media, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, outlined in detail the strategic objectives of the Defence Forces and the conditions for ending combat operations. Despite significant enemy losses and successful Ukrainian strikes on Russian logistics, the general currently refrains from declaring that the conflict has reached a turning point. Instead, the Ukrainian army plans to bring the aggressor nation to a complete halt through the systemic attrition of its military and economic potential.

The head of the Ukrainian military shared his vision of the war’s culmination and subsequent strategic steps in an interview with The Times.

Anticipating a Critical Moment

In his discussion, the Commander-in-Chief referenced the renowned military theory of Carl von Clausewitz concerning the culmination point of a conflict. According to this principle, the aggressor’s military might must first reach its maximum energetic impulse, after which it inevitably halts and collapses due to total exhaustion. This precise scenario is considered by Ukraine’s military leadership to be the most realistic path to victory.

“I cannot directly say that the war is approaching a turning point,” the general frankly admitted.

Currently, the Russian command has not abandoned its intentions to seize Ukrainian territories, merely adjusting the timelines for its plans. The enemy continues to exert pressure with infantry and employs the cynical “death by a thousand cuts” tactic.

“We hope that a moment will come when the enemy mobilizes all its forces, resources, and actions, after which exhaustion will set in, and then a turning point may occur,” explained Oleksandr Syrskyi.

Four Main Objectives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

To accelerate this process of exhaustion, the Ukrainian military command is implementing a clear action plan. The Defence Forces’ strategy currently boils down to four main, albeit extremely challenging to implement, tasks. The first and primary objective remains the reliable holding of controlled territories.

The second crucial task is the elimination of Russian soldiers in numbers that significantly exceed Moscow’s capacity to replenish its reserves. Since the beginning of the year, Ukrainian defenders have already managed to kill or wound over 183,000 occupiers, surpassing the figures of Russian mobilization during the same period.

The third objective involves the complete destruction of enemy logistics using medium-range drones.

“We must be proactive and constantly impose our will on the enemy through active operations,” summarized the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The fourth strategic goal of the Ukrainian forces is the targeted destruction of the Russian economy. To this end, the Defence Forces will continue to carry out large-scale long-range strikes on facilities within the energy sector and the military-industrial complex of the aggressor state.

It is worth noting that unprecedented changes in combat tactics have compelled modern armies to return to methods of the past century. According to Syrskyi, the use of drones has rendered heavy equipment ineffective, leading infantry to assault the enemy “on foot,” reminiscent of World War I.
