The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, spoke candidly about his relationship with the president amidst discussions of his potential resignation. The official admitted that Volodymyr Zelensky has not provided specific reasons for his dismissal.
Fedorov stated this at a briefing on July 16.
Fedorov still believes that “the situation will be rectified.” In his opinion, Zelensky has not yet sided with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
“He (Zelensky – ed.) has not let me down in seven years. He spoke well of me yesterday at the faction meeting, and I speak of him with respect now. But when 90% of the people whom we have inconvenienced with our decisions come to him, it is difficult for him as a manager to analyze all of this together,” stated the head of the Ministry of Defense.
At the same time, Fedorov says that Zelensky did not provide any arguments for his dismissal. The President did not say anything specific.
It should be noted that the minister explained the conflict with Syrskyi by the blocking of all initiatives by his team, accusing the commander-in-chief of intrigues and attempts to sow discord instead of consolidating efforts. Despite this, Fedorov emphasized that Syrskyi should not be underestimated as a military man, as he played a key role in saving the country in 2022 during the defense of Kyiv, Kharkiv, and the liberation of Kherson.

Commenting on his resignation, Fedorov stated that he has never let Zelensky down, has not pursued a political career, has not engaged in business, and has not been involved in corruption scandals. He attributed all achievements in his position to teamwork with the head of state.
Addressing the large-scale protests regarding his resignation from the post of Minister of Defense, Fedorov said that people came out not for him, but for the future of Ukraine. According to the minister, the public senses a departure from the values that changed the situation on the battlefield and is reacting to the risks associated with a change in course.
