President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a package of 300 Patriot system missiles is necessary for Ukraine’s defense during the winter. According to him, this should provide the country with a sufficient level of air defense and deprive Russia of the ability to count on a winter campaign.

He made this statement during a meeting of the anti-ballistic missile coalition.

The president indicated that Ukraine must prepare for the upcoming winter while continuing long-range operations against Russia.

“We have calculated that this package should include 100 Patriot missiles per month—300 missiles for the winter. I ask you to consider this,” he said.

Zelenskyy emphasized that with an adequate supply of air defense assets, Russia will have “significantly fewer reasons to drag out the war until winter.”

The President also reported that Ukraine and the United States have reached an agreement regarding licenses for the production of Patriot systems.

“President Trump and I reached an important agreement on licenses for the production of Patriot systems. Our teams are now working on the implementation of this truly historic political arrangement,” he noted.

Zelenskyy added that alongside Patriot, Ukraine anticipates further development of SAMP/T, IRIS-T, NASAMS systems, as well as the joint European project Freya.

Meanwhile, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, stated that the European Union will assist Ukraine in preparing for the upcoming winter, which could be very challenging due to the threat of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy system.

Kallas mentioned that she discussed the battlefield situation and strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha. The European diplomat is convinced that Russia will likely launch strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure again next winter.
