President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that a package of 300 Patriot missiles is necessary for Ukraine’s protection during the winter. According to him, this should provide the country with a sufficient level of air defense and eliminate Russia’s ability to rely on a winter campaign.
He made these remarks during a meeting of the anti-ballistic coalition.
The president indicated that Ukraine must start preparing for the upcoming winter now, while simultaneously continuing long-range operations against Russia.
“We calculated that this package should include 100 Patriot missiles per month – 300 missiles for the winter. I ask you to consider this,” he said.
Zelensky emphasized that with an adequate supply of air defense assets, Russia will have “significantly fewer reasons to prolong the war into winter.”
The President also informed that Ukraine and the United States have reached an agreement regarding licenses for the production of Patriot systems.
“President Trump and I have reached an important agreement on licenses for the production of Patriot systems. Our teams are currently working on the implementation of this truly historic political arrangement,” he noted.
Zelensky added that alongside Patriots, Ukraine anticipates the further development of SAMP/T, IRIS-T, NASAMS systems, as well as the joint European project Freya.
Meanwhile, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, stated that the European Union will assist Ukraine in preparing for the upcoming winter, which may be very challenging due to the threat of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy system.
Kallas explained that she discussed the battlefield situation and strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga. The European diplomat is convinced that Russia will likely launch attacks on Ukraine’s energy system again next winter.
