After Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov just six months into his tenure, the North Atlantic Alliance assessed the consequences of this personnel decision. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that he absolutely does not expect significant changes in Kyiv’s strategy regarding the fight against Russia following the appointment of a new leader.

He shared this in a comment to the dpa news agency.

The Situation on the Front and Fedorov’s Successor

The unexpected decision to remove Fedorov caused rare wartime protests in the Ukrainian capital. However, Mark Rutte anticipates continuity, as Ukrainian troops are currently performing much better on the front lines than at the beginning of the year.

According to him, the occupying army is advancing very slowly, while Ukraine has had the opportunity to successfully counterattack in some areas. Furthermore, Ukrainian forces continue to effectively strike deep into Russia’s rear and are methodically destroying its energy infrastructure and industrial base.

“I had a good working relationship with Mykhailo Fedorov. I wish him all the best, and his successor will undoubtedly continue this path,” emphasized the NATO leader.

Devastating Losses for the Russian Army

The Secretary General separately drew attention to the catastrophic human losses of the aggressor country. According to Alliance data, Russia loses between 25,000 and 35,000 of its soldiers monthly.

“If you are a young Russian man considering joining the military action, you might become one of those approximately 30,000 this month or next. This is terrible news for families and for the people involved,” warned Rutte.

We remind you that the Kremlin stated they are monitoring personnel changes in the Ukrainian government. However, according to Peskov, the resignation of Mykhailo Fedorov from the post of Ukrainian Defense Minister allegedly holds no particular significance for Moscow.
