The future fate of Polish MiG-29s will hinge on the outcomes of negotiations between Kyiv and Warsaw, as well as whether the parties can agree on mutually acceptable exchange terms.

In Poland, a final decision regarding the aircraft has not yet been made, although an official request from Kyiv has already been received.
This was stated by the Minister of National Defense of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
According to the head of the defense department, Warsaw is no longer considering the option of gratuitous transfer of aviation.
The minister announced that the Ukrainian side has proposed an alternative format of cooperation. Specifically, Kyiv is ready to supply unmanned aerial vehicles to Poland over the next two years in exchange for MiG-29 fighter jets.
Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that such a scheme is indeed being discussed and is theoretically possible.
“It can only be about a mutually beneficial exchange, not a simple transfer of military equipment. Warsaw continues to assess all consequences of such a decision, taking into account defense needs,” he added.
Transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets by Poland to Ukraine: what is known
As is known, discussions about transferring Polish MiG-29s to Ukraine have been ongoing since December 2025. The General Staff of Poland explained that these aircraft are being phased out anyway, being replaced by more modern F-16s and FA-50s. Already in January, the Polish government announced plans to give up to nine such fighter jets to Ukraine.
On June 30, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, stated that Poland would not transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine because Kyiv has not yet transferred drone technology to Warsaw.
Earlier, the Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland, Paweł Zalewski, noted that Kyiv is not interested in receiving MiG-29s without prior modernization, while the Polish side is not ready to pay for the upgrade of the fighter jets.
