President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has sent the Order of the White Eagle, which he was awarded in 2023, to Polish President Andrzej Duda.

The head of state announced this on Telegram on June 20.

In his address, Zelenskyy recalled the words of the Polish President that the Order of the White Eagle “is not an ordinary award” but symbolizes the highest trust of the Polish Commonwealth, a special connection with the Polish state, and the gratitude of the people.

“So, if it is considered that this special symbol can remain with Catherine the Great, Benito Mussolini, and Gerhard Schröder, then we in Ukraine will not argue with that,” stated the President of Ukraine.

At the same time, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is grateful to the Polish people for their support and cooperation, which, in his words, play an important role in the struggle for the independence of both countries from Russia. He also noted that Ukraine values Poland’s solidarity and considers cooperation between the region’s states one of the security guarantees.

“Ukraine will continue to defend itself in this war unleashed by Russia, and we will definitely achieve a dignified peace. Ukraine is grateful to all peoples, states, and leaders who will continue to be with us on the path of defending freedom and who will be with Ukraine as guarantors of post-war peace in Europe and new real security,” the president wrote.

Separately, the head of state stated that Ukraine will continue to be open to meaningful interaction with Poland to prevent misinterpretations regarding difficult pages of shared history and to ensure proper respect for the innocent victims of the 20th century.

“And Ukrainians are doing everything in their power to prevent Europe from losing in this century. I am proud of our people and EVERY Ukrainian soldier – millions of Ukrainians who deserve unquestionable honor for the heroism shown by the Ukrainian people in defense against Russian aggression,” Zelenskyy added.

He also reported that he had sent the award to Poland.

“We believed that the Order of the White Eagle was addressed precisely to the Ukrainian people and our army in 2023. That’s what was said then. Today, I sent the Order to Mr. President of Poland,” the head of state noted.

The photos released by the president show the Order of the White Eagle and documents for an international shipment via “Nova Poshta” to the Chancellery of the President of Poland. Karol Nawrocki is indicated as the recipient on the form.

Nawrocki deprived Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle – latest news

We remind you that on June 19, Polish President Andrzej Duda decided to strip Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle.

After that, the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sybiga, announced that he was renouncing the Commander’s Cross with a Star of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland and returning the award to Poland.

The Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, also reacted to the situation. He emphasized that a conflict between Poland and Ukraine benefits Russia and noted that “the front line is elsewhere.”

“A conflict between Poland and Ukraine delights Putin and shocks our allies. The task of Presidents Zelenskyy and Duda is to reduce emotions, not to increase tension. The front line is elsewhere,” Tusk noted.

At the same time, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, criticized the Polish leader’s decision, calling it an “unfriendly act.” In addition, he announced that he is renouncing the Golden Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, which he was awarded in 2025.
