Russian unmanned aerial vehicles have attacked foreign civilian vessels in the waters of the Black Sea. There are casualties among the crew members.
This was reported by the Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine – Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, Oleksiy Kubrakov.
According to him, a ship flying the flag of Panama was attacked. One crew member died. In addition, two sailors were injured, one of them severely.
During the strike on the vessel sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, three crew members were injured.
“This is further proof that Russia is waging a war against freedom of navigation, international trade, and global food security. Civilian crews, merchant ships, and maritime infrastructure that ensures the operation of humanitarian and export routes are under attack. The world cannot get used to civilian sailors becoming targets for Russian weapons,” the official emphasized.
The head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, also confirmed the attack. According to him, the vessels have now resumed movement. Port infrastructure is operating, taking into account the security situation, the official added.
“These attacks are another demonstration of the enemy’s terrorist nature, which deliberately kills civilians and jeopardizes global food security,” stated Kiper.
As a reminder, in early June, the **Russian Federation shot down rescue vessels in the maritime corridor** in the Black Sea. Russians struck two boats of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service, which were carrying out a humanitarian mission within the Ukrainian maritime corridor.
At the same time, Reuters reports that Russian **strikes on ports could collapse Ukrainian exports**. It should be noted that the ports of the Odesa hub, in particular, handle all iron ore exports and over 90% of agricultural products. Revenue from the sale of agricultural goods forms the main part of the country’s foreign exchange earnings during the war.
