Law enforcement agencies in the USA have apprehended a group of individuals who were plotting a major terrorist act using explosive-laden drones during a sporting event in Washington. Thanks to the swift actions of security forces, an attack on the historic UFC America 250 tournament was averted, thereby preventing another assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump on his birthday.
This was announced by FBI Director Kash Patel.
Details of the Large-Scale Special Operation
American intelligence agencies became aware of the potential threat on June 10th. The suspects were located outside the capital region, necessitating a complex interstate operation involving the Department of Justice.
Patel emphasized that law enforcement officers stopped the planned attacks in their preparatory stages and took several individuals into custody. Investigative actions in this high-profile case are ongoing, and intelligence agencies have pledged to keep the public informed of new developments.
Drones with Explosives and Terrorist Chats
According to the FBI Director, the perpetrators intended to use unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with explosives. Officials confirmed that the target of this attack was specifically the UFC event, which had ties to the White House.
During the investigation, security forces gained access to private communications of the perpetrators on the popular messenger app Signal. It was revealed that 23 individuals were actively discussing preparations for the future terrorist act in special chat groups.
Citizen Protection During Mass Events
The leadership of the investigative bureau highly praised the work of its agents and partners from various law enforcement agencies. They stated that such outcomes are the best examples of effective investigative work, though it remains routine for the team.
The primary objective of intelligence services remains the identification and prosecution of all individuals who pose a threat to the lives of Americans during large gatherings. Citizens are also urged to exercise maximum vigilance and report any suspicious activities to the bureau’s dedicated hotline.
Assassination Attempts on Trump – What is Known
During the 2024 election campaign, Trump survived two assassination attempts. On July 14th, at a rally in Pennsylvania, 20-year-old local resident Thomas Matthew Crooks managed to bypass all security perimeters, positioned himself on the roof of an adjacent building, and opened fire with an assault rifle equipped with an optical sight. Trump miraculously escaped death – one of the bullets passed very close to his head, grazing his ear. Security forces shielded the politician with their bodies, but he managed to get up and raise his hand. Snipers neutralized the assailant with return fire.
On September 15th, a new attempt was made on Trump’s life during a golf game. The perpetrator was apprehended, and the politician was unharmed. A Secret Service agent managed to prevent the tragedy – he noticed a barrel protruding from the bushes and reacted instantly, opening fire.
On February 22nd, US Secret Service agents shot and killed an armed man after he penetrated the protected perimeter of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
On April 26th, during a White House Correspondents’ Association dinner attended by US President Donald Trump and the First Lady, a shooting occurred. The heads of state were evacuated, and the event was postponed for a month. The suspected shooter was detained.
As a reminder, a cryptic message was left for Trump a few days ago. The inscription “86 47” was discovered on a lawn near the White House. Unknown individuals had burned the numbers into the grass, making them clearly visible from above.
