The success rate of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles by Ukraine’s air defense has diminished due to a significant scarcity of anti-aircraft guided missiles for Western systems.

This statement was made by Yuriy Ihnat, head of communications for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a telethon broadcast.
“We can speak of a deficit. There is information voiced by Georgiy Tikhyi (Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson – Ed.) that there are certain platforms where missiles nearing their expiration date can be obtained. They will be, as they say, past their prime. It would be better to ‘dispose’ of them in Ukraine, as missile disposal is a costly process requiring substantial funds. Therefore, it is indeed simpler to transfer them to Ukraine so it can defend itself. In the interviews we conducted today, our Patriot operators and unit commanders are saying that Ukraine truly needs more defense,” he stated.
According to the Air Force representative, Ukrainian air defenders achieved exceptionally high results in countering Russian aerial terror during previous waves of shelling. However, the situation has become more complicated recently.
“We saw massive attacks in May and June. The percentage of ballistic missile interceptions has decreased compared to those preceding months. Even when considering the winter period. This is due to the missile deficit,” Ihnat noted.
Previously, Yuriy Ihnat commented on whether a new massive strike from the Russian Federation should be expected in the near future.
As a reminder, Bloomberg reported that Europe is rushing to bring Putin to the negotiating table to initiate diplomatic processes before the start of Russia’s winter attacks.
