Russia expresses serious concern about the possibility that Venezuela might grant Ukraine access to its substantial stockpiles of Soviet-era weaponry.

Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergey Shoigu, stated during a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart that Moscow is worried about Western attempts to involve Latin American countries in schemes for supplying weaponry to Ukraine.
“We are aware of the activities of Western envoys who are trying to involve Latin American states in various schemes for supplying weapons in the interests of Kyiv,” Shoigu said.
He also emphasized that Venezuela still operates significant quantities of military equipment of Soviet and Russian origin.
As the publication notes, Moscow and Caracas have a long-standing military partnership, under which Russia has supplied weaponry and technical support for decades.
Following a change in its political course, Venezuela, according to the material, has begun to move towards a more pragmatic foreign policy and the resumption of contacts with the United States.
Military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko considers the scenario of transferring such equipment to Ukraine “very realistic,” given Venezuela’s possession of Soviet tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery, and helicopters.
At the same time, SIPRI expert Peter Wezeman points out that the implementation of such a scenario depends on the position of the United States and its pressure on Caracas, which currently appears uncertain.
According to him, if Venezuela reorients towards Western suppliers, old Russian weaponry could be transferred to Ukraine directly or through intermediaries.
